We are still working through the bounty of apples we have been blessed with. Until winter rears it’s ugly head, the trees are keeping us fed with loads of apples. Apples for breakfast, lunch, dinner and desert!
One of our favorite things to eat for breakfast is waffles, so naturally, I needed to add apples to our waffles and these caramel apple pie waffles were born and they are AMAZING! (sorry for yelling but we really do love these waffles).
My husband’s most favorite dessert for fall is apple pie. If I make him warm, delicious apple pie for dessert he is putty in my hands!

So why not make him that happy in the morning? Yeah, these caramel apple pie waffles for breakfast did that.
These waffles are made with a mixture of cinnamon, applesauce and shredded apples to really give them a ton of delicious fall flavor. Cooking them in a waffle iron makes them nice and crispy on the outside, while remaining moist and chewy on the inside.
Then to really put the icing on the cake, we will top these amazing waffles with a simple caramelized apple topping and, of course, whipped cream. The perfect dessert for fall!
How to Make Apple Pie Waffles
You will start by combining all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Measure out the whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and salt. Whisk it all together and set aside.
Next, combine the wet ingredients in a medium bowl. I like to use a 4 cup measuring cup for my wet ingredients so I can measure them directly into the container.
Melt butter and allow to cool a little.
Meanwhile, measure out the milk, applesauce, egg yolks, and apple cider vinegar. Add melted butter, then whisk together until smooth.
In a medium bowl, whip up the egg whites until stiff peaks form. I do this with my hand mixer, it really takes just a couple minutes to get them nice and stiff.
Finally, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk together.
Then add in the whipped egg whites and shredded apples. Carefully fold it all in until combined.
Cook the batter in your favorite waffle iron.
While the waffles are baking, it is time to make a quick and easy caramel apple topping to take these waffles to the next level. It really is so easy!
How to Make Caramel Apple Topping
Melt butter in a small saucepan. Add in diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir it all together until the sugar is completely dissolved and it starts to bubble.
Simmer the apples in the sauce until they reach desired doneness. I like mine a little crispy still so I only simmer for a couple minutes, if you like them softer, simmer longer.
As you can see, I also left the skins on the apple, no need to waste all your time peeling apples then throwing out all that nutrition, the apple peels taste delicious in this!
Pour hot apples and caramel sauce over the top of your hot waffle, then finish it off with a healthy serving of whipped cream. Yum!
With a breakfast like this, you are ready to tackle the world! Or at least I am ready to take on my rambunctious kids!
